Iter 1
The Capitoline hill was the Acropolis of Rome, a place sacred to the gods, most important of whom was the Capitoline Jupiter, whose temple
was the point of arrival for the cortèges celebrating the triumphs of generals passing along the Via Sacra. We reach the Campidoglio up the staircase known as the Cordonata, at the top of which Gregory XIII had placed the colossal groups of the Dioscuri.
The Capitoline hill dominates the Forum Romanum, the most famous and classical part of ancient Rome: stupendous temples, triumphal arches and monuments of every sort. Looking at the ruins on this hill, we can easily visualize the life which animated ancient Rome.
To the right of the valley of the Forum Romanum, we see the Palatine Hill, where the Rome's first nucleus came into being.
